"Ajman's library"
Date
2023
Faculty
Roberto Castillo
Description
The project is located in a traditional urban area in Ajman, UAE, and aims to enrich the place’s cultural value. Inspired by the word “إقرأ” (read), a significant term in Islam and the driving force of the project, the library’s design divides the space into two volumes with a central round element. This round element, featuring a double-helix staircase, is the central vertical circulation and separates formal and social functions. The design ensures a balance between focused education and community gathering. Skylights and linear screens soften light to enhance the psychological environment, while curved walls house bookshelves, promoting smooth spatial flow and continuity.
An award-winning project recognized by the World Architecture Community Awards for the 46th Cycle.
